In 2020, I received the Gold Medal in Leadership in Teaching from Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan), an award that recognizes a faculty member’s impact on personal and academic growth for students.
In 2019, I was honored with the “Quest for Excellence” research award at NorQuest College, recognizing my contributions to research. Additionally, in 2020/2021, I received the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning award from the Alberta Colleges and Institutes Faculties Association (ACIFA). I have authored and co-authored more than 25 publications in peer reviewed journals. I work with a lot of learners and have mentored and supervised 6 doctoral students, over 30 master’s students, and numerous undergraduates.
I am a founder and currently an editor the peer-reviewed Journal of Practical Nurse Education and Practice. Currently, I am leading a project focused on enhancing mental health awareness and improving systems navigation in Alberta. The project is in collaboration with Ribbon Rouge Foundation and is funded by the College and Community Social Innovation Fund (CCSIF). This initiative now has a newsletter that reaches a wide audience across Alberta and beyond. I am also a co-lead on a post secondary students’ mentorship and resilience project funded by the Government of Canada. The mentorship project is a partnership between NorQuest College, Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE), Boys & Girls Clubs Big Brothers Big Sisters of Edmonton & Area, and CUE’s Black Students Association.
